SENIOR ECONOMIC POLICY RESEARCHER

TASC is looking to hire an experienced economic and public policy
researcher and who is interested in further developing TASC’s work
in the areas of inequality, housing, labour market/pension analysis,
and more.

The candidate should have a background in high-quality research and
knowledge of or interest in the Irish and European policy landscape,
especially in relation to social injustice and inequality.

This is a full-time (5 day/week) permanent contract subject to a
six-month probation period. The primary responsibilities of the role
are to provide high quality research and analysis. Work streams and
areas may develop as the role evolves influenced by, among other
things, funding opportunities and the researcher’s expertise. The
aim of this key TASC role is to have an impact on society and policy,
therefore engaging with stakeholders and policymakers will also be
expected.

The position reports directly to TASC Executive Director, Dr Shana
Cohen, while interfacing with other programme managers, project
coordinators, administration and communications staff. Our office is
based in Dublin 2, Ireland. The position is hybrid and will require
time in our Dublin office.

ABOUT TASC:

TASC is an independent think-tank whose mission is to address
inequality and sustain democracy by translating analysis into action.
TASC’s Constitution presents its main objectives as:

* Promoting and publishing research for public benefit

As a public education charity, TASC engages in research and public
outreach concerning inequality, democracy, social inclusion and
climate justice in the current political, economic, and social
environment. Through its work, TASC seeks to increase knowledge of
public policy, improve working conditions, facilitate a just
transition to advance climate action and protect livelihoods and
communities, and more generally, contribute to positive social change
in Ireland and the EU. 2 Our inequality stream spans a range of
socio-economic areas, including income inequality, housing, pension
adequacy, and more. We have organised several projects that engage a
variety of organisations such as civil society actors, trade unions,
government entities, EU partners, and more.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

RESEARCH

* Deliver high-quality research outcomes and the development of
written reports for public dissemination.
* Provide short policy analysis/briefing papers as needed.
* Utilise rigorous research methods – including quantitative data
analysis, extant literature reviews and other related research
activities.
* Provide on-going support for TASC funding applications and
organisational development as required.
* Develop on-going strategies for project monitoring and evaluation.
* Assist with the wider work of TASC in order to meet the strategic
goals of the organisation.
* Undertake duties as required by the TASC Executive Director.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT:

* In conjunction with the wider TASC team, work on developing,
delivering and expanding TASC’s work on inequality.
* Facilitate meetings, public forums and events (digital and
in-person).
* Represent TASC’s work on inequality publicly, including in the
media.
* Work in collaboration with relevant stakeholders – including
statutory bodies, funders, and community, voluntary, and front-line
organisations.
* Have responsibility for day-to-day management of research projects
and funding applications as appropriate.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA FOR THE ROLE:

* A post graduate degree in economics/finance/other subject with an
significant economic component.
* Experience of working in economic and social policy.
* Experience of using and analysing large datasets, such as census
data.
* An appreciation and alignment with the goals and mission of TASC.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

DESIRED CRITERIA:

* Specialised in the field(s) of inequality, housing, transport,
and/or labour market/pension analysis.
* At least two years’ experience in project management or
postdoctoral research.
* Knowledge of Irish and EU policy analysis.
* Experience of contributing to social and traditional media.
* Experience of qualitative research methods.
* Knowledge of European languages beyond English.

SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE:

* Experience in writing reports and use of other tools for social
analysis purposes.
* Proficient in MS packages e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook
* Fluent English.
* Knowledge of a statistical software (e.g. R, Stata, SPSS)
